Noémie Sauve & Benjamin Van Wyk de Vries

Noémie Sauve (1980, Romans (26)) lives and works in Paris. A self-taught artist, draughtswoman and sculptor, she sets out to draw up a plastic iconography of fantasies, both contemporary and from the past, around domestication (of the elements, animals and landscapes), through the exploration of both forms and materials. She regularly collaborates with a wide range of specialists (biological engineers, vulcanologists, taxonomists, etc.) and strives to highlight the complexity of living organisms and their actions as a principle of fundamental autonomy. Selected by the jury for the Tara Pacific artist residency, she left on board the scientific schooner in 2017 - Fondation Tara Océan & Agnès b. She is regularly invited to take part in projects combining art and science, such as on the island of Vulcano (Sicily) for The Possible Island in 2021. Her artistic practice also irrigates many related fields in which she is fully involved, such as the creation of the Fonds d'Art Contemporain Agricole de l'association Clinamen (FACAC).

Benjamin van Wyk de Vries is Professor of Volcanology at the Magmas and Volcanoes Laboratory, Université Clermont Auvergne. He works and teaches in English, French and Spanish.
He has coordinated the CENTRALRISK (Central America - Europe) and INVOGE (Europe - USA) international masters programs. He has set up courses such as 'Teaching in English': a course for university teachers, and several other transdisciplinary and multilingual courses. His research is transdisciplinary, crossing volcanology, tectonics and geoheritage. He is the author of numerous publications on a wide range of subjects, and heads a UNESCO International Geosciences Programme project entitled “Geoheritage for Resilience”.
For him, there is no separation between the community, pure research and practical application when it comes to environmental issues. The scientist must operate in society, and geoheritage is a powerful means of achieving this.
